A plumbing company wins work two ways: it shows up when someone searches "emergency plumber near me" at 11 pm, and it actually answers the phone when they call. Captain Plumber, a plumbing company serving Kelowna and the Central Okanagan, needed both. This is how we built the system that does it.
Quick answer: what makes a local plumber's site generate jobs
Three things, working together. Local landing pages for every service in every area you cover, so you can rank for the exact thing people search ("drain cleaning Kelowna," "plumber West Kelowna"). A way to answer every call, including the ones that come in while your crew is under a sink. And a fast, conversion-first site that turns a click into a phone call. Miss any one of the three and you leak jobs.
The local SEO structure: a service-by-area matrix
A single "Services" page cannot rank for a whole region. People don't search "plumbing services"; they search "gas line installation Kelowna" and "24/7 plumber near me." So instead of one page trying to be everything, we built a matrix: each core service crossed with each area Captain Plumber covers, as its own dedicated, indexable page.
That's 28 landing pages in total, covering service pages like:
- Drain cleaning, leak detection, faucet installation, gas line installation, and plumbing inspection, each geo-targeted to Kelowna
- Area pages for West Kelowna, Lake Country, Peachland, and emergency coverage across the Okanagan
Each page is written for the actual query behind it, with local intent, clear pricing cues, and a call-to-action above the fold, not a generic template with the city name find-and-replaced in.
The 24/7 AI phone agent
Here's the problem every trade knows: the best time to catch a job is the moment the pipe bursts, and that's exactly when the crew is elbow-deep in someone else's. Missed calls are missed jobs.
So the site is paired with an AI phone agent (built on Twilio and Deepgram) that answers when a human can't. It picks up, understands the caller, captures the job details, and routes urgent calls appropriately, so an after-hours emergency doesn't roll to voicemail and then to a competitor. It's the same idea as the AI receptionist and AI quoting for trades systems we build, applied to a real plumbing operation.
Conversion-first, custom-built
The site itself is a fast custom build (Vue and Vite, no WordPress, no page builder), engineered for Core Web Vitals and local SEO. Click-to-call is everywhere, quote requests are frictionless, and trust signals sit up front. A plumbing customer in a hurry should never have to hunt for the phone number.
The results so far
Local SEO is a compounding game, and Captain Plumber's visibility is being built the right way: broad, on real buyer terms, and climbing. In a recent 28-day window the site drew ~15,300 search impressions across the Okanagan and already ranks on page 1–2 for its core money terms:
| Query | Position |
|---|---|
| plumbers near me | #5 |
| gas line installation kelowna | #8 |
| 24/7 plumber near me | #10 |
| west kelowna plumber | #10 |
| plumber kelowna | #11 |
| captain plumber (brand) | #2 |
The clicks curve follows the rankings curve, and both are still moving up as the pages age and authority builds. The foundation, the pages that can rank and the system that answers, is in place; from here it compounds.
Building something similar?
If you run a trade or home-services business and your site is a single page that doesn't show up for the work you actually want, this is the pattern that fixes it: local pages that can rank, plus a way to catch every call.
